Agriculture Conference Held in San Luis Valley
This week, the Southern Rocky Mountain Ag Conference and Trade Fair will be held in the San Luis Valley. This annual conference provides information for sustainable and profitable production and management strategies for potato growers, small grain and forage growers.
Held February 9 – 11 at the Sky High Park complex in Monte Vista, this annual agriculture conference is now in its 35th year and strives to provide growers the latest local and regional research information available to not only improve their operations, but to become more successful.
This year’s keynote speaker will be David Ferrell, a business comedian.
Here are some of the three day event’s highlights. On Wednesday, Feb. 10 there will be three very informative sessions on non-pesticide and soil/water health management at the upcoming Agriculture Conference in Monte Vista. Starting at 8:30 a.m., Jonathan Lundgren will speak on “Trading Biodiversity for Pest Management.”
Next up one of the options at 10:20 a.m. is Rancher Gabe Brown who will discuss the “Holistic Regeneration of our Lands.” The afternoon presentations also include farmer-rancher Rob Jones conversation concerning “Alternative Irrigation Technology,” which begins at 3:45 p.m.

San Luis Valley ranchers and farmers might be particularity interested in the potluck speaker presentation on Feb. 9 at the Monte Vista Coop. Starting at 7 p.m. speaker Jay Fuhrer, a “very progressive NRCS fellow” from N. Dakota will discuss soil health.
