National monuments in Colorado include Colorado National Monument near Grand Junction; Dinosaur National Monument across the state border from Vernal, Utah; and Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument near Colorado Springs.

The Great Sand Dunes in the San Luis Valley offers the mountains and "the beach," and this week is fee-free in honor of National Parks Week.
