Saguache Commissioners: Hemp Grow Study Ahead

It all came down to the birds and the bees last week when Saguache Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) voted unanimously to press the pause button on any industrial hemp grow operations starting up in Saguache County.differenceshempmarijuana

The primary concern seemed to be the potential for cross pollination between hemp and the numerous – 7 to date – licensed marijuana growing operations in the county. The BOCC indicated that the six-month moratorium would give them more time to look into zoning setbacks between the two crops. After all, those busy bees could change the form of a hemp plant, which as regulated by the state can contain no more than 0.3 percent THC, with a simple visit, cast from a good strong wind.

As for the marijuana currently being grown in the Valley its THC content averages 18 percent, giving users the high or medicinal relief they’re after.  Ultimately, the commissioners are looking to get a better handle on the industry before issuing regulations.
