The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) works to improve the health of low-income elderly persons at least 60 years of age by supplementing their diets with nutritious USDA Foods.
Dozens of Saguache County Seniors have signed up for the Saguache Healthy Elders Discount (SHED) program at the 4th Street Food Store. Saguache Works is seeking to serve more qualified citizens.
Thanks to a generous grant from the Saguache County Commissioners, a 20% discount on food purchases is available to Saguache County residents 60 or older. Ride share and delivery services are provided to those lacking in transportation or unable to get out and shop.
The program is intended to help those who may earn too much to qualify for other assistance, but will struggle to make ends meet.
Please let Saguache Works know if someone in your family or friends is in need of any of these SHED services, which are provided by volunteers. Rides are also provided to elders wishing to participate in chair exercises or other fitness programs offered at BeFit Studio.
Saguache County Public Health has identified obesity and inactivity as the most serious threat to public health countywide and Saguache Works is attempting to address these problems by offering healthy food at affordable prices and free access to exercise programs for residents of all ages.
For more information, or to sign up for SHED, please stop by the 4th Street Food Store at 404 4th Street in downtown Saguache or call 719-655-0216.
