Seed Exchange, Camel Fun for Hot Springs Weekend

Joyful Journey Hot Springs has a weekend of fun, fundraising and farming lined up. And then of course, there’s the soaking!

Come help support your local camel dairy with dinner and a night of music at Joyful journey Hot Springs this Saturday, Feb. 18 from 6 – 9 p.m. It’s the Mudita Camel Dairy Fun-Raiser!spacer

spacerRivers Edge will be providing their tunes for the night for enjoyment and dancing. Dinner will be a feel good mexican casserole by the ever wonderful Villa Grove Trade. Good food, good music, and lots of opportunities for dancing!

There will also be a silent auction and donations will be accepted with all funds raised going towards Mudita Camel Dairy to help in keeping the dairy in milk production. Please RSVP to 303-550-1482. Tickets at the door will be $25.

Then on Sunday, thoughts turn from milk to greens!! Do you like to garden, maybe you are thinking about planting one this season or have some tips you’d like to share about gardening in the San Luis Valley? Then make plans to attend the 2017 San Luis Valley Seed Exchange this Sunday, Feb. 19.

The seed exchange this Sunday, Feb. 19 at Joyful Journey Hot Springs from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Seed swaps are a rewarding way to build community and share information about gardening, plant varieties, and each others’ projects. Most seed swaps happen in late fall, winter or early spring, when seed crops have been harvested and when it’s not too late to plant the seeds for the following year.

This seed exchange event is being held at  Joyful Journey Hot Springs is proud to sponsor the 2017 San Luis Valley Seed Exchange, scheduled for February 19 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in their conference center.  They will have seeds to exchange, information tables, gardening books, tours of our on-site greenhouse, speakers, food, fun and community.  Programs will be available with a discount coupon for soaking. 

Speakers include Mary Walsh from The Neilsen Library in Alamosa and hot springs local Jeff Wishmer will be doing HEGELKULTUR demonstration.spacerhugelkultur-01

spacerAdmission and “exchange only” tables are free but a $5 donation is suggested and the proceeds will be donated to a local charity.  Last year’s proceeds brought in over $600 which was donated to the Mountain Valley School community garden program. By sharing these “Seeds of Gratitude” we can invest in our most precious seeds: the youth of the community.
