Latest News – March 7

History, It’s Alive in Saguache Today!

If you live in Saguache Today, it’s hard to escape the unique and cherished history of the ancestors that first settled the San Luis Valley, as well as those that came after them, right up to the generations of families who still live here today. Saguache is a special place with a special heritage. So in honor of March being Women’s History Month, here is some museum news you can use!

The Saguache County Museum opens for the summer season on Sunday, May 28. An organizational meeting is planned for this Sunday, March 12!

The Saguache County Museum will hold a business meeting at the home of Lynn Sutherland on Sunday, March 12 at 1:30 p.m.  Many plans are underway for the opening of the museum scheduled for Sunday, May 28 of Memorial Day Weekend.

The Saguache County Museum has lots of fun planned for their Opening Day May 28, including breakfast in the park, the Cowboy Prayer, vendors, and a parade! Also available for sale on Opening Day May 28, will be a new Museum Images book; a special book signing event is planned that day as well.  This year’s theme will be Happy Birthday Saguache County at 150 years young!

Several residents have also asked for the museum to bring back the Sunday Events, a popular program for attendance, but it unfortunately, it did not generate the monies necessary as the main  fundraising project for the museum.  This event may return for the 2017 summer season, but may not be just as it was last season.
