Centurylink has expanded its broadband service to 1,700 households in Saguache County.

The company has made investments in Saguache County that enable it to offer speeds of at least 10 megabits per second to more than 1,200 customers in Center and more than 500 customers in Saguache. Some customers can now access speeds up to 40 megabits per second.

These two communities are among many designated by the Federal Communications Commission as high-cost areas under the FCC’s Connect America Fund (CAF) program.

This investment represents the continuation of a broadband expansion program begun in 2015 when CenturyLink committed to increasing broadband speeds to rural households and businesses across Colorado.

High-speed internet access can bring many benefits to rural communities, including economic development and better access to education and healthcare services, such as distance learning and telemedicine.

“Improving broadband access in rural areas is a critical goal in Colorado,” said Anthony Neal-Graves, Colorado Broadband Office executive director. “We need to ensure that federal funds that have made this investment possible, along with private investment, make the biggest impact in our state.”

“We’re excited to bring the power of the digital world to Saguache County and to help bridge the urban-rural digital divide in Colorado,” said Guy Gunther, CenturyLink Vice President of operations, Colorado. “We understand how important it is for our customers to have fast, affordable aOcess to the internet, so CenturyLink has made the expansion of our high-speed internet service a priority.”

Depending on location, a variety of speeds may be available. Customers can visit for more information.

In August 2015, CenturyLink accepted the CAF phase II statewide offer in Colorado and is committed to bring broadband speeds of at least 10 Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload to more than 50,000 customer locations in FCC-designated, high-cost Colorado census blocks over six years. download
