It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year in Saguache Today! And there’s plenty coming up this weekend to get you into the holiday spirit. So break out the Jingle Bells and round up the children, it’s Christmastime!
On Friday Dec. 1, friends and neighbors are invited to The Wapiti Coffeehouse for a live show, as local musician Daniel Peden shares his talents, playing some Celtic music from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. If you haven’t had a chance to check out Saguache’s newest coffeehouse this is a good time to do so.
You can read their story HERE. Keep in mind a gift certificate for your favorite coffeehouse hipster mean one more check-off your holiday shopping list. The Wapiti Coffeehouse is located at 319 San Juan Avenue behind Southwest Bank in downtown Saguache.
Then on Saturday, the Annual Holiday Bazaar will be held at the Community Building. Word on the curb is that the jolly guy himself, Santa Claus will be making an appearance from 1 – 3 p.m. So grab those wish lists and get the kiddos dressed in their Christmas finery for pictures. Santa Claus is coming to town!
The 7th Annual Holiday Bazaar is sponsored by the Friends of the Saguache Public Library, and offers for sale a variety of beautiful handmade wares from local and regional craftspeople. There’s nothing like a homemade wreath or Christmas tree ornament to get you into the holiday spirit!
The event starts at 9 a.m. and runs through 3 p.m. The Holiday Bazaar is a great place to find that special gift for that hard-to-buy-for-person on your holiday list. Arts! Crafts! Food!
Then later Saturday evening, folks are invited downtown to watch the lighting of the Christmas Tree, proudly displayed at the intersection of 4th and San Juan Streets. The light switch will be flipped at 5:30 p.m. according to Town of Saguache officials. O Tannenbaum! O Tannenbaum!
And if Decking of the Halls, puts you in the mood to get your own tree, check out this Saguache Today story about where you can get a permit to harvest your own Yuletide fir (psst, if you know a fourth grader, you can get one for free!)
Downtown will be ready to receive shoppers all weekend, but Saturday will bring some special deals in support of the tree lighting. Saguache Works will be offering complimentary hot cocoa and cookies at the 4th Street Food Store. If you haven’t been in Saguache’s downtown grocery store in a while, it’s a good time to stop in and see what’s new. Be sure to put in your order for those special items for your holiday table. They can fulfill most requests at a good price, plus, you’d be supporting a local business!
Then pop next door to shop at the Blue Earth Thrift and Mercantile and catch some great gift deals. Right now they are having a 75% off sale on all summer items, a great way to put together your gift basket of hot springs apparel. It’s a perfect under-the-tree present for your favorite soaker. Shoppers can find other treasures and word on the curb is that they’ve been getting in some pretty sweet things that probably aren’t going to be sitting in the display window for very long.
Local artists and antiquers will also be dusting off their one-of-a-kind wares after a sleepy fall to get folks into the shopping mood. Downtown shops like Magpie and Antiques Etc. offer something for those hard-to-find people on your holiday list, from eclectic antiques, to local glass art and paintings. Support your local artists!
