Tick-Tock – Scary Fun Awaits in Saguache

“You’ll see, things are quite different here!” While movie-goers may recognize this line from the scary season’s rising-star film, “The House with a Clock in Its Walls,” it also sums up this psychological thriller’s core plot.

The good news is that this film is also rated PG, which means that some of the younger kids can still enjoy a good Halloween-ish movie. The film is based on a 1973 juvenile mystery fiction novel. While you need to “know-your-kid,” they recommend age 11 plus.  Catch this one playing at Cozy Castle Cinema this weekend, October 12 – 14.

In this weekend’s film, “The House with a Clock in Its Walls,” ten-year-old Lewis goes to live with his oddball uncle in a creaky old house that contains a mysterious `tick tock’ noise. He soon learns that Uncle Jonathan and his feisty neighbour, Mrs Zimmerman, are powerful practitioners of the magic arts. When Lewis accidentally awakens the dead, the town’s sleepy facade suddenly springs to life, revealing a secret and dangerous world of witches, warlocks and deadly curses.

Saguache News – September 7

“The Meg”  Movie – and Beach – Fans Beware!

Remember the movie “Jaws?” Just hearing its theme music can evoke the fear that terrorized movie – and beach! – goers back in the summer of 1975. Since then, film-makers have tried to mimic that success.

Their latest attempt will be playing at Cozy Castle Cinema this weekend, Sept. 7 – 9. Meet “The Meg,” a 75-foot-long prehistoric shark known as the Megalodon. It’s also the title of the 2018 science fiction thriller film directed by Jon Turteltaub, which is loosely based on the 1997 book Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror by Steve Alten.

In “The Meg,” a massive creature previously thought to be extinct, attacks a deep-sea submersible, leaving it disabled and trapping the crew at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. With time running out, a visionary oceanographer recruits rescue diver Jonas Taylor to save the crew and the sea itself from an unimaginable threat!

The film, which is rated PG-13,  stars Jason Statham, Li Bingbing, Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose, Winston Chao, and Cliff Curtis, and follows a group of scientists who encounter a 75-foot-long (23 m) megalodon shark while on a rescue mission at the floor of the Pacific Ocean.
