Saguache Museums Makes Weekend Memorable!

If you’re in town for the first 3-day holiday of the summer, or might be passing by Saguache this Memorial Day Weekend, then be sure not to miss all of the great fun the Saguache County Museum has planned, especially on Sunday, May 28. Did you know that Saguache County celebrates its 150th Birthday this year!? Well, stop in and find out all about it!

Things kick off early Sunday morning, May 28 with the traditional – and delicious – Pancake Breakfast at Otto Mears Park, followed by a Cowboy Prayers service at 8 a.m. The crew from the Saguache County Museum will be serving breakfast which includes pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee for $5/plate until 11 a.m.


The official opening of the Saguache County Museum, now in its 59th year, will be on Sunday, May 29. The museum has some new & exciting exhibits, as well as books, crafts by local artists, t-shirts & more in gift shop. At 9 a.m. you will start to see Food & Craft vendor booths at Otto Mears Park on Sunday, May 28. But don’t let that make you late for the parade, because the vendors will be there until 4 p.m.

At 10 a.m. if you’re marching in the parade you’ll need to start lining up downtown at Pitkin and 4th Streets. The official Happy 150th Birthday Celebration for Saguache County starts at 11 a.m. on 4th Street in downtown Saguache. This year’s Grand Marshall will be Larry Ward who will also be signing some of his t-shirts throughout the festivities.

Just add a parade! Flags are flying on 4th Street in downtown Saguache in honor of the coming Memorial Day The parade will be at 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 28..

After the parade, check out the shops and art galleries downtown, as things start to come alive for the summer season! Then, from Noon – 2 p.m. at Otto Mears Park there will be a hot dog lunch for $5/plate for the kids along with a “fish-pond-in-the-park” until 2 p.m. when the official 150th birthday cake will be cut – and eaten – of along with some coffee, lemonade in the community building. And some entertainment!

On the other side of the highway at the Saguache County Museum from 12:30 – 2 p.m. there will be a book signing by Margaret Mizushima. She will be signing copies of Stalking Grounds, friends of the library will offer their famous root beer floats.

Starting Memorial Day weekend, the popular Saguache County Museum tourist attraction will be open daily from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Admission: $7/Adults, $1/Children under 12.
